Job Description

Under the direction of a plumber, a plumber's helper will assist with emergency & scheduled plumbing repairs of standpipe and sprinkler systems. The duties will include, but not limited to the following:

1. Assist Plumber with the following related tasks: perform work relating to the installation, inspection, maintenance, repair & testing of standpipes and sprinklers. Set, maintain and repair plumbing equipment and accessories.

2. Carry tools, working material and equipment and prepare the work location. Move heavy valves, piping fixtures. Cut, drill or prepare openings as may be necessary for the installation, maintenance or repair of fire safety, asset clean work area.

3. Any additional work related to fire safety and the good of the Authority.

Note: Travel to developments citywide is a requirement, with the frequency determined by the supervisor of the work unit.

Note: Certificates of Fitness for Citywide Sprinkler Systems (S-12) and Standpipe Systems (S-13) are required for this position.

NOTE: Due to the existence of a civil service list, candidates must have permanent civil service status in the title of Plumber's Helper to be considered.
