Maintenance Technician II (Plumbing)

JOB SUMMARY

This position performs journey-level plumbing work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of air, gas, water and waste disposal systems in campus-wide buildings and facilities; assists skilled technicians in performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance, repair, alteration and construction of college buildings, facilities, and fixtures including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and painting; and performs related work as required. This class works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Assembles pipe sections, tubing, or fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing, or welding equipment.
• Installs, repairs and replaces pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers, water heaters, or fixtures such as sinks, toilets, faucets and pipes using hand or power tools; clears obstructions from lines.
• Fills pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observes pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
• Directs helpers engaged in pipe cutting, preassembly, or installation of plumbing systems or components.
• Keeps records of work assignments.
• Participates in remodeling of campus buildings and facilities including submitting cost estimates to supervisor.
• Inspects campus buildings and facilities to identify maintenance needs and safety issues.
• Participates in performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance and repair of college buildings, facilities, and fixtures including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and painting.
• Cleans and maintains tools and equipment.
• Loads and unloads equipment and supplies.
• Troubleshoots and diagnoses routine equipment and system problems; schedules and performs routine repair work or parts replacement.
