Qualifications
- Working knowledge of the techniques, methods, and tools of the plumbing trade
- Skill in the use of tools, materials, and equipment used in the plumbing trade
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instruction
- Working experience in the repair, replacement, or construction of piping systems
Type of work
An employee in this class is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of water and waste disposal systems, and boiler systems. The employee receives work assignments from the supervisor. New or unusual assignments are accompanied by more detailed instructions. Some errors may be revealed while work is in progress, however, others may not be detected until after work is completed. The employee works with limited supervision.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs skilled work and knowledge in the installation, maintenance and repair of steam, hot water and gas heating systems
- Has knowledge and understanding of steam, hot water and gas heating systems throughout the school system
- Troubleshoots and repairs thermostats, sensors and controls for Building Automation Systems
- related to boilers
- Performs maintenance and repairs on a variety of heating equipment including boilers
- Performs replacement of boiler sections, burners, pumps and other components as required for the safe operation of the systems
- Annually disassembles boilers, cleans all sections including burner, reassembles components, coordinates inspection by State
- Has understanding of Building Automation Systems and how they work
- Fabricates and installs cast iron boiler heating system and gas piping
- Maintains knowledge and understanding of regulations and codes pertaining to school plumbing, heating and gas systems
