Scope of Job

To maintain, repair, or install plumbing facilities and to develop the advanced skills of a journeyman plumber. Responsible for the prompt performance of assigned plumbing and related duties. Frequently responsible for supervision of semi-skilled or unskilled workers.

Description of Duties

* Installs pipes, sinks, traps, washbowls, toilet fittings, drains, special laboratory sinks and drain tables.

* Repairs and maintains valves, faucets, traps, sinks, and vents.

* Connects hot water heaters, gas heaters and furnaces and tests for safety.

* Repairs sewer pipes.

* Unstops clogged lines.

* Performs minor carpentry, digging and cleanup duties related to the assignment.

* Emergency work on weekends/nights.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received

Receives direction, instruction, and training from journeyman plumber or the lead/master plumber. Changes and implementation of plans from working drawings are often made by incumbent.

Supervision Given

May supervise assigned staff.

Required Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Licenses/Certifications

As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).
